The challenge
A manufacturer of automated guided vehicles used in warehouse and manufacturing facilities for material handling wanted to remotely retrieve operational and diagnostic data from the AGVs to assist customers with remote diagnosis of problems and monitor operational metrics. Using the operational metrics, they also planned to launch an alternate revenue stream by allowing customers to rent AGVs during peak production periods and pay based upon distance travelled. This would bring in additional revenues for the manufacturing company and provide cost benefits and production flexibility to their clients, converting a high capitol cost into an operational cost.
Our solution
Edge software was developed for the AGV stations to collect AGV metric and diagnostic data and connect to a cloud-hosted server application to enable remote, proactive support and AGV metrics to be shared with their billing system.
